Who Am I?
Hi! I'm Stephanie Hawryliw and I use the pronouns she/her. While I'm a Registered Psychologist working in the area of Edmonton, Alberta and that's probably what brought you here, I'm also a daughter, sister, partner, friend, aunt, colleague, teacher, and lover of food, learning, fitness, sports, the outdoors, music, and animals, especially big dogs! Prior to completing my Master of Counselling Psychology, I completed a Bachelor of Education and taught in the inner city at the junior high and high school levels for 6 years. By day, I currently work for WCB at Millard Health on a program which assesses and treats traumatic psychological work injuries which often involves work with first responders. During my evenings and weekends I see clients in my private practice, work on my Doctoral of Psychology, and enjoy time outside, moving my body, reading, listening to podcasts, watching sports, baking, cooking, and connecting with the people and pets I love.
Education, Training, & Influences
2021 - present: Doctoral of Psychology at California Southern University
2013 - 2016: Master of Counselling Psychology from Athabasca University
2005 - 2010: Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta (Social Studies major, Special Needs minor)
Gaining continued knowledge in the field is very important to me. I continually engage in learning through my pursuit of my doctoral degree in psychology as well as by engaging in ongoing training, workshops, consultation, and reading. As a result, I am knowledgeable in numerous interventions, so that my clients can always be in the driver’s seat and my approach can be tailored to meet their needs and strengths. If it turns out that the services you need are outside of my areas of expertise or that we are not a good fit in working together, I'll be happy to provide you with a referral to some options that might better meet your needs.

Professional Identity & Practice
What is the driving force behind my career and at the heart of my practice? It's knowing what a significant difference it can make to have a supportive, compassionate, and nonjudgmental person and advocate walking with you on your journey towards growth and healing. I believe that wisdom lies within all of us and in supporting clients in identifying and harnessing their strengths. Beyond that, I also believe that it is important to recognize the context in which our challenges to well-being and growth exist. My practice is inclusive, trauma-informed, rooted in client empowerment, and born out of experiences in work places specializing in workplace injury, first responders, family/domestic violence, and trauma. Throughout my time practicing as a psychologist, I have been lucky to be able to work with a diverse clientele with a variety of presenting problems and identities. Every day I gain remarkable perspective by seeing the world through my clients' eyes and experiences for which I am grateful.
